Education and Community Officer
Trident Park ERF, Cardiff
Salary - Competitive

At Viridor, we’re one of the UK’s leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies and part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group. We put waste into action, transforming it into high quality recyclables, raw materials and energy and are at the forefront of the UK’s green economy.

Fast growing and investing over £1.2bn in the development of a network of advanced Energy Recovery Facilities (ERF) across the UK, we’re reducing the reliance on landfill or exporting waste for treatment whilst becoming a revenue generating business.

We’re looking for an Education and Community Officer (also known as our Visitor Centre and Community Benefits Officer) to join us at our Trident Park ERF in Cardiff.

As our new Officer, you’ll run and develop the education, community engagement and ERF awareness programmes and activities, meeting requirements of any Local Waste Management Contract(s) and other relevant programmes in Cardiff and South East Wales. You will also raise awareness in the local community not just of our facility, but also resource management and the energy recovery sector including regulatory control and non-commercial agreements with local authority customers.

You’ll manage the education and visitor centre at Trident Park whilst also supporting the wider Viridor Education Team and Group Emerging Talent Strategy at our other sites. The management and administration of the Cardiff Community Benefit Fund will also be a primary part of your role.

Our new Officer will have good knowledge of health and safety required for public visits to operational sites; experience of working within a visitor centre (or similar environment) and with schools alongside positive teaching methods – delivering education programmes at a formal and informal level; experience of working with public groups from diverse backgrounds and experience of communications.

You’ll be an excellent communicator allowing you to engage with the public and our stakeholders at all levels with excellent presentation and Microsoft Office skills. You’ll be organised with a high level of project management working to tight timescales alongside the ability to be adaptable, resilient, self-motivated and importantly, enthusiastic.

Knowledge and experience of the waste management and energy recovery sectors would be advantageous, but not essential.

It’s important to note that this role requires a level of flexibility to ensure that vital work is achieved in a timely manner. Whilst core hours are Monday to Friday, there will be occasions whereby you will be required to work weekends and bank holidays with prior notice.

A full UK driving license is essential.

This is a great time to join our fast-growing business.

Closing date is 18th February 2019. Interviews are planned for the 5th/6th March 2019.
